This is a long one so hang in there! I am 28, have been into punk since I first heard the DK's back in '82, and completely into you guys since '91 (favorite band since!!!). Basically I am a punk lifer!! My friends think I am a freak to be so into this stuff and scene at this age!!

I actually really like to meet people on tour, but there are tons of people that I don't wanna meet as well. Like people who look at me like I'm some kinda rock star. they just kinda stare in amazement and giggle. WHAT A DRAG. Either say something interesting or relevant or just funny. Or a pleasant," nice to meet you" is cool. Just don't act all wierd. If you act wierd I'll probably get the hell outta there. And another thing, I'm really not to interested in having a conversation with a 15 year old. I mean come on, we're all over 30 and there's just nothing I wanna discuss with someone half my age. So the moral of the story is, if you're over 15 and not a total freak, and have something worthwhile to say, It would be my pleasure to meet you. unless you smell or have bad breath or like hip hop.

Are the characters you write about real or ficticious?

most are fake, but Bob was a real guy. Bob Durkee from our first album is a real guy. And that song about Kathleen hannah, well obviosly she's real. Can't think no more.

hey guys. i was just checking out the pics on lagwagon.com and i noticed some from zurich, switzerland where it said mike hurt his back pole vaulting and had to play a show sitting on a couch. im wondering if this is true, or was he too lazy to stand up, cuz that happens to me alot. by the way, the decline is the best song ive ever heard. hope the new album rocks as hard. lates.

I'm not that lazy. actually I have a shitty back, and I often throw it out getting drunk or jumpin around on stage or australian rules football, you know things. But that night in Zurich I could not physically stand up. I thought it was better to play the show than to cancel, so I played lying on a couch.

YOU GUYS WERE THE FIRST PUNK BAND THAT I EVER HEARD AND YOUVE BEEN MY FAVORITE EVER SCINCE,YOU OPENED ME UP TO A WHOLE WORLD OF GREAT MUSIC. SO WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS WHAT WAS THE 1ST PUNK BAND YOU CAN REMEMBER LISTENING TO.MUCH THANX

Y'know when you type in all caps like that I feel like you're yelling at me, or maybe you're one of those deaf kids who has to yell so he can understand himself. It takes one to know one. I used to like Adam and the Ants alot, and the Go-Gos, and Devo. They were Punk for their time. I think that as soon as anyone played anything faster, I like it immediately. Like Suburban Lawns had one good song that I remember, Dead Kennedys, Circle Jerks and the Adolescents were probably the first real punk bands that I heard. Melvin

Explain the process of how NOFX would record an album. What are the steps that are taken...for exapmle...rehearse (rehearse?), how the drum tracks are layed down, then what? Im curious to how band s record their albums when they dont worry too much about a budget.

I don't know what you mean by worrying about a budget, there's no point in spending more time or money than you have to. We do try to practice the songs well and know exactly what we will play when we get in the studio. We set up to record just the drums, but we all play together, or soemtimes one of the guitar players sits out. We make sure that Erik is happy with how the drums came out for every song. Then we go on to guitars. Once the main rhythm tracks are done, we do bass and the vocals come next, then we do leads and all extra guitar stuff and vocal harmonies to finish it up.

Are their any songs that make you cringe when u look back on them/hear them?

too many to count. I really like the s/m airlines album, but almost every song is sung out of key, due to me. the most obvious is vanilla sex. oh yeah, and just about everything on the mystic album is pretty hard to listen to. (live your life, and my friends are especially bad)

If someone was to hand you a copy of one of yr latest releases (the deline/Slatfats)when the band was 1st starting out an told you you would write & record this record what do u think ud think,do you think you would of liked it?

I'm not sure what language your using, pal, but I think that I get it. It's a kind of 'time machine' question. I like sci fi. I would definitely would be shocked and stoked on everything we've done, if it had been given to me in our first year of starting

Which song is the most fun to play at shows, where you guys get the most reaction out of the audience ect? I'm stoked with linoleum.

Linoleum is a big fave. The Brews is another crowd pleaser. So is Bob. I like it when we play Lori Meyers, 'cuz I get to sing the girl's part at the end! I also like Hobophobic and when we play any of the songs from "Fcuk the Kids" Melvin

I was curious as to your opinion concerning mp3's and pirating cds. Has it hurt nofx or fat wreck chords??

Yeah it hurts nofx and fat, but whadya gonna do. I dont really care that much. it's like taping a record at a friends house. I'd like to think that a lot of our fans would buy the new cd to help support the band, but hey, if you don't got the dough who's gonna know.

What is the most FUCKED up, SCARY, event that ever took place on tour, (or any other time during your NOFX lives?) I mean like, Unsloved Mysteries worthy?

once in champaign IL. smelly our drummer took a bunch of acid and went on a rampage. he threw a barbeque through a window ("lets throw a barbeque"), he put some kids leg in a cast with plaster( while the kid was passed out), he pissed on a bunch of passed out people, he went around the neighborhood spray painting anarchy signs on about 15 cars with pink spray paint, he started a fight with an off duty cop whose daughter was kissing smelly at the party, and he made a beer water slide in the house. we found him sleeping under our van at about 10 in the morning. it was one of the scariest things I've ever scene.
